Can I get a refill?

I read an article the other day that said the online searches for the term “Self- Care” had increased over 250% since the start of the pandemic. It is safe to say that we are all desperate to find new, fun, and easy ways to care for ourselves during these difficult times.  But, one thing I’ve found as a therapist, and to be honest, personally for myself-- we are making this way too complicated!

Yes, we all need to be more intentional about caring for ourselves, now more than ever. But the last thing we need is to add something else to our “to-do list” that brings stress or feelings of fear, obligation, or guilt.  As a healthcare worker, it is my job to pour into others. This responsibility is also mirrored in my role as a mother, wife, family member, and friend as I’m sure it is for you too!  My ability to show up for others is heavily influenced by my willingness to first show up for myself, CONSISTENTLY. It is impossible to pour from an empty cup! And if you do, what is poured won’t do much good to the person receiving it!  I started asking myself “how do I fill my cup”? What are some of the things that help me to feel refreshed?

5 things that fill my cup:

  1. “Coffee with Jesus”- A nice hot cup of coffee coupled w/Prayer, Meditation and Worship Music

  2. Journaling

  3. At least 30 mins on my peloton—shoutout to my favs: RobynNyc, Tunde, and Hanna

  4. Quality time with people that feel good to my spirit (topic for another post, LOL)

  5. Eating foods that serve my body and don’t just feel good in the moment.

Bonus: Going to target, solo!! Moms & Dads out there, I’m sure y’all can relate—BEST FEELING EVERRR! 😊

If I can be consistent with at least 3 out of these 5 things; I’m in good shape! Remember, progress not perfection!

So.. what are some things that you can do to fill your cup?
