Meeting Change With Gratitude

Heyyy Friends!

Happy September! We are quickly approaching my favorite time of year! There is something so beautiful and calming about the transition from summer to fall. Preparing to trade super-hot and humid days, laying out by the pool, extra busy schedules, and let’s be real—the mosquitos (lol) for the slower-paced, autumn-colored leaves, and crisp air that fall brings is my jam! The changing of seasons always ushers in a time of intense reflection and increased gratitude for many of us.

As we prepare for days to become shorter, one of the things I’m noticing in both my personal and professional life is a strong theme around change. Everyone seems to be in a space where they’re trying to get themselves together and figure things out. We’re reflecting more, re-evaluating priorities, re-assessing relationships, and releasing things that no longer serve us. Perhaps you can relate?! Many of my recent conversations have been centered around various aspects of life where there has been a noticeable shift. Specifically, around family, career, and relationships.

I want to share a nugget with you that came to me as I walked alongside someone grieving the unexpected shift in a relationship. What if we started meeting the change in our lives from a place of gratitude instead of disappointment, fear, or regret? Now, this is not to say that we shouldn’t mourn or miss what was.  But it is to remind you that we can be disappointed that things didn’t play out the way we hoped and grateful for the good that happened as well. Grateful for the good times shared, grateful for the laughs, the love, the growth, and the memories. How would that make our experience different?

Gratitude makes room for grace, especially in our relationships, and it also welcomes healing.

Journal Prompt Idea: Take a moment to reflect on some of the changes you’ve struggled with recently. How can you shift your perspective to one of gratitude and acceptance? Identify five positive things you are grateful for.

What are some changes coming up or that you want to make for yourself? Take time to identify the potential challenges that may arise as well as strategies to get back on track if needed.
